About The Author

This blog is obviously dedicated to the Comox Valley Glacier Kings. I will be the author for the posts so I will give you some background on myself. My passion has always been for radio, for sports and for play by play broadcasting. My radio career spanned approximately 15 years. I have done every shift including mornings, middays, afternoons, evenings and the dreaded all-nighters (back when radio used to be live for 24 hrs/day).

Powell River Kings (2004-2007)

My radio career started back in 1987 but my first taste of “play by play” experience came on December 3, 2004. I was chosen as the broadcaster for the Powell River Kings of the BCHL. How did I get the job? They were looking to have play by play broadcasts on the radio and I was the morning host at the local station. I was also the Powell River’s Public Address Announcer for their games so it was a perfect fit. My last game with the Kings was March 13, 2007 when the Cowichan Valley Capitals beat them 3-2 in OT to win the playoff series 4-2.

Melfort Mustangs / Humboldt Broncos / Nipawin Hawks (2007-2011)

I went from radio stations in Powell River and Courtenay broadcasting Kings games to a move back to my home province of Saskatchewan to work for CJVR/CK750 in Melfort. Instead of playing music, I was the Sports Director of the stations which meant I did the morning sports reports (yes they had a dedicated person just doing sports back then) every half hour and would also travel with 3 SJHL hockey teams and 1 University football team to do their play by play. My first broadcast would be August 31, 2007 for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies football team as they hosted the Alberta Golden Bears. My first hockey broadcast was September 25, 2007 when the Melfort Mustangs were in Kindersley. It was definitely a challenge doing 4 different sports teams at the same time as well as a regular shift at the radio station. My hockey broadcast would be November 26, 2011 as I decided to move back to BC for a new exciting career.

Comox Valley Glacier Kings (2016-2023)

After living in the Comox Valley for several years, I was missing the hockey community so I contacted the Glacier Kings ownership group who I had known when I lived in BC previously. I was offered the job as their play by play broadcaster and called my first game on September 10, 2016 and I remained in that position until I resigned from the position following the 2023 playoffs for a job opportunity in the Caribbean. Along the way I won the first “HockeyTV Broadcaster of the Month” award and the VIJHL “Broadcaster of the Year” award in my final year. Now I am looking at a smaller role as a blogger as I continue to do my career which is outside of hockey.
